Perry and Laura Solomon, owners of Tybee Oyster Company, have won a lease lottery for the state’s initial floating oyster farm. The selection process considered various factors, such as experience in aquaculture, residency duration in Georgia, and financial backing.

Under Georgia law signed in 2019, qualified individuals may lease subtidal water bottoms from the state to raise oysters for commercial purposes.
Please note that there is no legal requirement for a formal leasing process when it comes to privately owned land. However, if the person leasing the land is also the owner, they must provide a signed and notarized copy of the lease agreement.
